    Split the dry volume by the mix parts. For a 1:2:4 concrete that is 1 part in 7.

    Convert the cement volume to mass at about 1,440 kg/m³, then divide by 50 to get bags.

    Round up per delivery, never per calculation — part bags left open on site go hard and are wasted.

Buying and site notes

  • Cement has a shelf life. Bags stored more than about three months, or anywhere damp, lose strength — order to the pour, not to the whole job.
  • Stack bags off the ground on timber and no more than eight high, or the bottom bags compact into unusable lumps.
  • Buy from one manufacturer for the whole structure where you can: strength classes vary between brands and mixing them makes results inconsistent.
